Mike Grundy, Project Director of The Soil and Landscape Grid of Australia, CSIRO along with a team of over 30 specialists from government, university and Geoscience bodies in Australia have pooled their knowledge to provide a comprehensive database of soil and landscape information in 90Ha grids across the whole of Australia and available for free.
Simon Leake, with 30+ years as Principal Soil Scientist of SESL Australia, established in Qld, Vic and NSW. Simon is Australia’s leading urban soil scientist, and co-author of the AILA NSW award winning resource: Soils for Landscape Development: Selection, Specification and Validation. Simon will discuss recent projects that have and haven’t applied these useful example soil specifications and will explain how you can design better root zones in your projects.
Penelope Smith, Research and Marketing Manager for The Hills BARK BLOWER, will bring samples of various engineered soils developed for different urban situations. You will be able to get your hands dirty experiencing what you can expect from different mixes. She will explain the benefits and limitations of current specifications from a supply and installation perspective, and provide a couple of brief case studies that highlight the importance of the communication channel between Landscape Architect, Builder, Landscaper, and Supplier.
